Nam Cat Tien National Park is located in Tan Phu district, Dong Nai province. Travel time by motorbike or car from Ho Chi Minh City to here is about 3 hours. Bau Sau is a swamp located in the south of the national park, home to Siamese crocodile, a freshwater crocodile species of Southeast Asia.

Hoang Minh, from Ho Chi Minh City, is a nature lover. Whenever he needs to rest, he tends to go to places with lots of green space. But as an office worker, with little free time, Minh only arranges to go to nearby places and Nam Cat Tien is an ideal place.

The area inside Bau Sau in Nam Cat Tien National Park.

Minh’s group consists of 5 people departing from Ho Chi Minh City at 11:30 am on Saturday after work, about 3 pm to the place of residence. In the evening, the group holds a BBQ party, walks around the homestay area towards the forest – which will be conquered the next day.

On Sunday morning, the group departs at 8am, starting with a boat trip to the forest, the ticket price is 20,000 VND per person round-trip, the entrance fee to Bau Sau is 140,000 VND per person. To keep up the strength for the trek in the forest, Minh chooses a Jeep vehicle from where he buys tickets to the Bau Sau gate at a cost of 600,000 VND for 5 people both for the first time and for the return trip. Visitors can also choose a bicycle to stop and visit the beautiful scenery.

At 9:00 am, the walking distance to Bau Sau is more than 10 km both going and returning. Minh revealed: “The initial feeling was very exciting, then it was scared because the forest road should lose connection with the outside world, there is no phone signal.” However, thanks to traveling with a group and meeting many tourists, the feeling of fear gradually subsided, replaced by the enjoyment of nature. The cool air as soon as he entered the forest and the green space made Minh feel so small.

Not only that, the atmosphere and wild beauty of the forest create the feeling of enjoying the absolute nature. Especially in the dry season, on the forest sections, hundreds of colorful butterflies flutter around, creating a very special, multi-colored beauty.

Going on the forest road, visitors are not afraid to get lost because there are very specific instructions, in addition, there is a signboard with notes for each type of tree. Minh said: “The road through the forest, there are many trees with impressive shapes. Many trees are noted carefully about the species, such as the 400-year-old pine tree, known as the “snake god” of Nam Cat Tien forest, attract many tourists to take pictures.

Continue to follow the map, go on a wooden road stretching about 5 m high above the ground, move about 500 m more to Bau Sau. Appearing in front of Minh’s eyes is a wide lagoon surrounded by green vegetation, quiet, only the sound of the natural wind rustling through each foliage.

Arriving at more than 11am, Minh ordered lunch with rangers. The dish was not special, but this was the meal he found the most delicious because he was hungry. After that, the group rested in the ranger camp. “This is a small wooden house, you can look at the impressive green areas, enjoy the cool air of nature that cannot be found in the city,” Minh said.

There is also a boating service, Minh’s delegation was taken by the rangers to visit, see close-up crocodiles diving, sometimes there are some animals to eat and drink water along the lagoon. In order to catch the afternoon ferry, Minh returned at 3pm, crossed the boat at 4pm, ending the weekend trip.

Compared to Minh’s previous natural discovery sites, Nam Cat Tien is impressed by the diverse ecosystem that still retains the pristine pristine features, especially the Bau Sau swamp area.

In terms of clothing, you should choose sports clothes, discreetly avoid being bitten by insects, a pair of comfortable shoes because of the 10 km walking distance. In addition, you should bring some necessary items such as: water, insect repellent, walking stick in the forest (if needed), personal hygiene items…

It is recommended to go to the forest from November to April, avoiding the rainy season. In addition, the time of the ferry is limited, visitors make a specific schedule and the exact time to catch the boat back.

Conquer The Spines Of Dinosaurs And The Magical Mossy Forest On The Top Of Ta Xua

Ta Xua peak in Ban Cong commune, Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province is one of the 15 highest peaks in Vietnam, with an altitude of 2,865m above sea level. Ta Xua Peak is the natural boundary between Yen Bai and Son La provinces.

Ta Xua has three peaks, looking like a giant rock dinosaur with an undulating and thorny spine. In addition to the direction from Tram Tau town, it is possible to reach the top of Ta Xua from Bac Yen district, Son La province. This trail is short, easier to climb, and doesn’t go over the dinosaur’s spine.

According to Nguyen Manh Chien, administrator of the Association of mountain climbing enthusiasts with nearly 70,000 members, the Ta Xua climbing bow has attracted tourists’ attention in recent years because of its unique and long dinosaur spine. and beautiful, giving visitors a strong feeling that is unmatched anywhere.

On the top of Ta Xua, there is a unique mossy forest in Vietnam. And even more amazing, this place is also a paradise of clouds.

Ta Xua climbing palace has attracted the attention of tourists in recent years because of its unique natural scenery (Photo: Dung Khuat).

In mid-April, a group of 6 of us set out to conquer Ta Xua, after nearly a year of climbing activities in the Northwest were stopped due to the Covid epidemic. We rented a car and went from Hanoi at 5pm to Tram Tau town, where we stayed overnight to prepare for the 3-day climb of Ta Xua in 3 days and 2 nights.

From the starting point to the top of Turtle Head rock, about 4km long. The gently sloping hill road has many trees on both sides, so it is quite cool for climbers. The rocky outcrop shaped like a turtle’s head protruding out is an indispensable check-in point in the climbing bow.

From this ledge, one can fully enjoy the immense and majestic scenery: the mountains in the distance, the vast forests spreading out below.

We stopped for lunch at 12 noon in the flat land right near the cliff of Turtle’s Head. After about an hour of rest and refueling, we continued for more than 2km to the area of shack 1. This area passed through a low bamboo forest growing close together. The group of 6 of us walked through the bamboo forest under the slanting sunlight. The scenery is really picturesque.

(Photo: Duc Hung)

Because the climb was quite fast, partly thanks to the cool weather, we did not stay at shack 1 but went straight to shack 2 near the top of Ta Xua. Through shack 1, the terrain and scenery completely changed. Large rocks and large trees began to appear in abundance.

In September 2023, to ensure the safety of visitors, the local government provided materials and local people worked hard to erect an iron stake and steel wire on the most difficult climbs of the giant spine. long.

Mr. A Vang, 48 years old, from the Mong ethnic group, said he was one of 8 people who installed this wire railing. “We went down to town to get iron, steel, and cement provided by the local government. After 7 working days, we completed this railing system. Since then, we feel more secure every time we take tourists. guests come here,” said Mr. A Vang.

When we started to conquer the spines of the dinosaurs, we gathered all our climbing sticks and put on gloves to climb and cling to the wire railing. Steel wire railings are only erected in some of the most dangerous sections of the climb, the rest of the trekkers still have to crawl, crawl and cling with both hands to cross the small, slippery, precarious trail. four mountain peaks.

Standing on the back of a windy dinosaur, you can look around and see thousands of mountains and clouds and old forests under the clouds below. The beauty that cannot be described by words or images has kept us longer here.

After more than 2 hours, we overcame the dinosaur’s spine and walked for another nearly 1 hour to the rest of tent 2. It was 4:30 pm. It’s cold and it’s starting to get dark.

The new shack that can accommodate about 60 people was built in December 2023. According to Mr. A Key, the owner of the shack, it took him and 5 people a month to build this spacious and clean shack with the total investment. about 60 million VND, not including the efforts of 6 people. Before that, visitors had to sleep in a small shack that could hold about 30 people and was located in an inconvenient area.

The entire Ta Xua climbing arc has no streams or waterfalls. In order to have water to serve the shack, the owner of the shackled water by a rubber hose from a ravine about 4km away. Water from this stream is also led to shack 1.

Shack 2 (Photo: Duc Hung).

We have dinner at 19:00, dishes include grilled pork, boiled chicken, bamboo shoot soup and wild vegetables. After dinner, we quickly went to rest to prepare for the next day conquering the two peaks of Ta Xua 1 and 2.

According to the plan, we will get up at 5 am to go to the top of Ta Xua 2 mountain to watch the sunrise and then return to have breakfast and then go to the top of Ta Xua 1, the highest mountain of the climbing arc, where there is a stainless steel top. However, the night rain that lasted until morning ruined our plans. After leaving all our belongings in the shack, we started climbing to the top at 7:30 when the weather cleared.

After about 30 minutes of climbing, we entered the ancient rhododendron forest covered with moss. The ancient forest has many long branches covered with moss with strange shapes. The fog covered the eyes and the strong hiss of the wind made the forest more mysterious and magical, as if only in fairy tales.

There is a special thing that the yellow and red azaleas in the forest near the top of Ta Xua are still blooming brightly while the azaleas in the forest below have faded. According to Mr. A Dang, our guide, the high humidity and airtightness help the azaleas here bloom later.

After more than 3 hours of climbing and taking pictures, we reached the top at 11am. Mr. A Dang said that from November to March next year, from here, you can observe the surrounding mountain peaks and often have the opportunity to meet the sea of clouds right below.

Six members of the delegation took a commemorative photo with a stainless steel top on the top of Ta Xua (Photo: Duc Hung).

After having lunch with sticky rice and chicken, we went down the mountain at 12 o’clock. On the way back to the shack, we climbed to the top of Ta Xua 1. This peak is located about 20 minutes from shack 2. This is the perfect place to watch the sunrise and sea of clouds on a nice day. From here, you can see the entire back of the dinosaur crossing the four peaks below.

After about 30 minutes at the top of Ta Xua 1, we went back to shack 2 to pack up our things and move down to shack 1 to spend the 2nd night. Overcoming the majestic, climbing dinosaur spine again brought us a wonderful gift. new thrills and attractions. The weather was nicer today than yesterday so we spent a lot of time capturing the scene from the back of the dinosaur.

(Photo: Duc Hung).

Arriving at shack 1 at 17:00, we rest, have dinner so that early the next morning we go down the mountain back to Cong village to get on a car to return to Hanoi, ending the journey to conquer Ta Xua, a wonder. The majestic and mysterious nature is unique.

Impression Of The West In The Eyes Of Hanoi People

Dang Vu Duy Hung, 23 years old, living and working in Hanoi, has many impressions of the West after visiting this place twice.

“Different from discovering the majestic Northwest mountains or the Central Highlands, the West River gives me a feeling of peace, relaxation, less stress when traveling and especially brings a lot of historical value. culture and people,” Hung said.

Duy Hung was overwhelmed by the vastness of the western rice fields. The West is in the rainy season, visitors need to be careful with sudden thunderstorms, so heavy rain that it is difficult to see the road to move.

Before coming to the West, he always envisioned this as the largest granary in the country, the fields stretching endlessly in the folk song “Dong Thap Muoi storks fly straight”. When he arrived, Hung was even more overwhelmed by the vastness of green fields.

Each place Hung goes to has different values for himself, so he cannot choose the place he likes best in general. However, if the place with the most natural value is divided, it will be Tram Chim National Park , the cultural value is the ancient house of Mr. Xoat in Tien Giang.

Tram Chim National Park gives him the opportunity to admire the typical beauty of the Dong Thap region, which is both a granary, a lotus pond, and a river, making it an ideal place for animals. “Before coming to Tram Chim, I heard reports about encroachment on the buffer zone and core zone of the national park causing a decrease in the number of species and individuals, making me worried and difficult to see them.” However, during the motorboat ride, he was able to see with his own eyes a few species of birds living and feeding.

Hung rides a motorboat to explore Tram Chim National Park.

When going to Cai Be town, Tien Giang, Hung discovered a series of old houses built between 80 and 200 years ago: Mr. Xoat, Ba Duc, Mr. Kiet. He liked the old house of Mr. Xoat the most because of the delicate combination of French materials and Vietnamese culture. Come here, listen to the old lady who is living and is the 5th generation grandchild, the owner is a Nguyen Dynasty mandarin, originally from Hue, came to Tien Giang to see that this place has a favorable terrain, near the river, so he built this house. more than 200 years. In terms of architecture, the old houses in the West are delicately mixed between tradition and modernity, East and West, architectural features that are hard to see elsewhere bring a feeling of both ancient and new.

The interesting thing in his journey as a Hanoian is that Hung had the opportunity to visit the Temple of Literature in Vinh Long. “I can admire the Temple of Literature of the West to compare with the Temple of Literature in Hanoi,” Hung said. In terms of size, Vinh Long Temple of Literature has a smaller area, but in terms of historical value, it is not inferior as a place for scholars and people to gather to discuss and discuss world affairs, at the same time. uphold the sages and educate posterity about patriotism.

Another place that impresses Hung is the ancient pottery village of Mang Thit . Stretching along the banks of the Cai Thay canal and Co Chien river, these old pottery kilns are close together like large mushrooms, glowing red in the sun.

The ancient pottery village of Mang Thit, Vinh Long has a contemplative beauty.

The regret in Hung’s journey to discover the West is the experience of going to the Cai Rang floating market in Can Tho – one of the most famous tourist activities in the West. “In my head, I imagined it was a busy market with countless boats and boats with a variety of goods. But when I arrived, the boats were sparse and the goods were limited. Maybe because of commercial reasons. commercialization but the tradition has gradually lost,” Hung said. He also hypothesized that he was late, but asserted that his arrival time was reasonable, still capturing the sunrise.

“It’s all just a guess, next time I’ll come back at an earlier time, and at the same time experience more floating markets in other provinces to get a more comparative perspective,” regretted Hung.

Some other impressions in the journey are that Hung finds the people of the West extremely lovely. That cuteness is reflected in the voice that is inherently gentle like the voice in the don ca tai tu song . The loveliness is also expressed through friendliness and hospitality. Hung suggests tourists should visit pubs in Can Tho and Vinh Long, get a better feel of the lives of locals through glasses of wine and conversations. In addition, cocktails are also well made and reasonably priced than in big cities.

In terms of cuisine, the food is sweeter than the North. The food is fresh and flavorful. Hung likes the grilled snail with green pepper in Can Tho. “In Hanoi, snails are often steamed with lemongrass and chili or sautéed, but I have never eaten grilled jackfruit snails. The snail’s sweetness is enhanced by the pungent taste of pepper to create a rare characteristic flavor,” Hung described. Western pancakes are also different from Da Nang and Hanoi. Large piece of cake, filled with shrimp meat, bean sprouts and raw vegetables. When eating, cut it into small pieces and roll it with rice paper rolls.

Kerala is a truly tropical paradise and should not be missed!

The best times to visit Kerala are in the winter months between September and April when the climate is most comfortable and the rains have stopped.

There are so many things to do and see in Kerala but here are 7 of the best!

✔1. Take A Canoe Ride Through The Backwaters In Allepey

Kerala is famous for its backwaters. It is home to a vast network of lagoons, lakes, canals and rivers parallel to the Arabian Sea. It forms a labyrinth made by more than 900 kilometres of waterways.

The best place to visit the backwaters is in Allepey just south of Kochi. The best way to see the backwaters is to take a day-long canoe tour. You will spend the day leisurely cruising along the waters in a small boat with your guide.

Going on a canoe means you are able to go through the large canals as well as small canals and get an intimate glimpse into how the locals live on the waters. The tours also provide an amazing traditional Keralan lunch for your group to enjoy.

Don’t forget to ask your guide to stop and pick you up some local toddy! Toddy is a homemade fermented coconut drink from Kerala. It is similar to kombucha and will be sure to give you a buzz.

✔2. Catch The Kerala Express

Or any train in Kerala for that matter! There are trains that run from Kochi all the way to Trivandrum back and forth all day long.

Keralan Thali is a full meal of big grains of rice, dhal, pickle, various veggie curries and papadoms. You can also get refills as many times as you like until you are well and truly stuffed!

Other Keralan favourites that shouldn’t be missed are:

Thoran: This is a dry coconut curry made with vegetables like beetroot, beans or carrots.

Keralan Parantha: This is a crispy, flaky naan bread similar to Laacha Parantha in North India. It is absolutely to die for to slurp up a curry with or have it on its own with some pickle and curd.

Masala Dosa & Idli: This is a thin, crispy rice and lentil pancake stuffed with spiced potatoes. It is served with coconut chutney and sambar, a spicy watery curry. Dosa is traditional breakfast food. Idli are small rice cakes and are also served with chutney and sambar for breakfast. There are a number of other unique Keralan breakfast specialities to try. So delicious!

Casava Crisps: These are a real addiction and can only be found in South India! They are crisps made from cassava. This is a root vegetable (similar to sweet potato) that is a staple to Keralans. They come in a variety of flavours from plain salted, to chilly and garnished with fried curry leaves.

✔5. Explore The Streets Of Fort Kochi

Fort Kochi is a famous area in Kochi that is full of vibrant culture, architecture and nightlife. Stepping into Fort Kochi feels like stepping into Europe! It is not actually a fort but it used to be a fortified city.

It is full of the cultural remanent and architecture of the Portuguese, Dutch, French and British who dominated Kochi until India’s independence in 1947. Fort Kochi is a mix of trade and high-end tourism with a hip laid back vibe.

You can find lots of cool cafes, churches and shops to explore in this quaint place.

Walk around the pavement on the beach and check out the famous old Chinese fishing nets. Enjoy the sunset and fresh coconuts from the street vendors.

Munnar is a beautiful place in the mountains of Kerala, surrounded by pristine jungle. Munnar is famous for its tea plantations. You can see the plantations in all their glory by going to the top hill station viewpoint.

The best way to get to Munnar is to catch a bus from Kochi. This journey is full of spectacular scenery as you ascend into these majestic mountains.

✔7. Experience Authentic Ayurvedic Treatments

Kerala is most famous for the authentic Ayurvedic treatment and retreat centres across the whole state. Varkala is a beautiful setting to have some serious ayurvedic treatments done!

You can start off by having a (usually free) consultation with an ayurvedic doctor. They will determine your body’s constitution and discuss what your health issues and concerns are. From there they will prescribe you treatments such as marma massage, Shirodhara (where they pour oil on your head), custom dietary recommendations and recommended natural medications.

If you have a serious health problem or want a full cleanse you can opt for a panchakarma treatment. This releases stored toxins and restores the body’s innate healing ability. These treatments involve daily treatments and dietary requirements and can last from 7-60 days.
